Fundraising is a piece of cake for generous stationery supplier

It was a case of ‘ready, steady bake!’ for a Gloucester stationery supply firm which turned up the heat on fundraising by holding a baking competition.

The team at Robert Hall Business Equipment took it in turns to bake each week, and winners were judged on taste and presentation, with the cakes sold among the staff.

The £180 raised by the bake-off was presented to the Kimbrose Club – our weekday club for people with dementia.

Kerry-Ann Lees, manager at The Kimbrose Club, which meets Monday to Friday and is attended by up to 24 people for each half-day or day session, said the money would be used to
buy a new music player for the club.

“We are very grateful to the staff at Robert Hall for their generosity,” she said. “We really need a new MP3 or CD player, as music plays an important part at the club. We often find that where someone may not be able to talk or hold a conversation they can still sing and remember words to songs, because they are using a different part of their brain. Music is very calming, and we have it on many times during the day.

“We’ve also been inspired to do some baking ourselves, so have been holding a baking day for our club members.”

Alex Meadows, sales consultant at Robert Hall, who organised the bake off, said everyone had enjoyed the fundraising – and the chance to eat some great cakes! The overall winner was Sharon Hiam, with her chocolate Yule log, complete with Santa and a snowman.

“We do quite a lot of fundraising for local charities,” said Alex. “We picked the Kimbrose Club this time from among the suggestions, because of the great work it does with dementia.”

There are spaces available at the Kimbrose Club for people with dementia, whether their condition has been recently diagnosed or is more advanced. Visits can be on a day, half-day or even hour-long basis, one day or several days a week. For more information please get in touch.
