Why Gloucester Charities Trust is a Great Place to Work

At Gloucester Charities Trust, we don’t just offer jobs — we offer purpose, community, and the chance to really make a difference. Whether you’re supporting a resident in their daily care routine, cooking up a comforting meal, running a creative activity, or helping maintain the spaces we work in, everyone at GCT plays a part in helping others live well.

Across Guild House, Magdalen House, Kimbrose Club, and our independent living schemes, our residents are at the heart of everything we do. And the people who work here bring that heart to life.

Care That Makes a Real Difference

We’re incredibly proud of our care teams working at Guild and Magdalen House and Kimbrose. Whether it’s a quiet chat, helping someone get ready for their day, or supporting a resident to join in with an activity or enjoy their lunch with dignity and ease, this is care that’s personal and thoughtful.

It’s also backed by brilliant support staff: our chefs, who know our residents’ favourite meals; our finance and admin teams, who keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes; our housekeepers, who make sure our environments are clean, comfortable and homely: our activities coordinators who bring energy and fun into people’s days; our independent living officers, who provide support and enrichment to those who want it living in our sheltered housing schemes; and our amazing volunteers, who give their time so generously to help create a welcoming, vibrant, and connected community.

Everyone contributes to the wellbeing of our community.

A Team That Builds Each Other Up

At GCT, there’s a strong culture of growing from within. People are encouraged to develop, step forward, and shape their own careers. Many of our current managers started in hands-on roles — including myself. I began with ad hoc maintenance work and part time carer at Kimbrose Club , and now manage the Property Care side of the charity.

We’ve had great success with apprentices too — like PJ and Maddox, who both trained and qualified with us and are now essential members of the team and Alicia who is now deputy manager at Magdalen House.

Whether you join us in care, property, hospitality or admin, your journey won’t go unnoticed — and you’ll be supported to thrive.

Every Role Matters

One of the best things about working at GCT from my perspective is the variety of roles and the variety within roles. We have care and support staff, activity coordinators, chefs, housekeepers, independent living officers, property specialists, admin and finance teams, and a fantastic coffee shop team at No.76 — all working together to create something that’s far more than the sum of its parts.

Whether you’re ensuring a resident’s heating works properly, managing fire safety, preparing home-cooked meals, or helping someone feel welcome on their first day, every single role has an impact.

Driven by Values, Not Targets

This isn’t a place where I have ever felt micromanaged or boxed in. If you’ve got a good idea, we want to hear it. That’s how new projects and improvements happen — Whether it designing and implementing major changes to the design and layout of our homes or revamping the coffee selection at No.76, or setting up a new activity for residents

Your input isn’t just welcomed — it’s invaluable.

We lead with values, especially P.R.I.D.E — Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence — and that runs through everything we do. It means we each take ownership of our roles and strive to deliver the very best for our residents and colleagues every single day. While we take our work seriously and hold ourselves to high standards, there’s always room for laughter, kindness, and warmth. It’s this balance of professionalism and genuine care that creates a supportive environment where people enjoy coming to work, feel valued, and can bring their whole selves to the job..

It Feels Good to Work Here

We celebrate small wins and joyful moments — whether it’s passing your apprenticeship, birthdays, anniversaries, or other successes. We strive to look out for and support one another, ensuring that no one is just a number but a valued member of our community.

There’s something special about knowing the work you do each day has meaning, and that your team has your back. That’s what makes GCT different.

I am now in my 13th year with the Trust, I have taken every opportunity and challenge with open arms! The support and compassion I have received during some truly difficult times—on more than one occasion—has been above and beyond anything I could have expected. That’s the kind of care and commitment that makes Gloucester Charities Trust not just a workplace, but a community.
