More about your first day
Before you join
Before joining The Kimbrose Club, you’re invited to pop in, meet the team and get a feel for the club. The initial assessment is a friendly, relaxed conversation about you, your interests and the support you’re looking for.
It is also a chance to ask questions and tell us what would help you feel comfortable, including the important business of exactly how you like your tea or coffee!
Arrange a first visit1 · A warm welcome
When you arrive, our team will greet you with a smile and introduce you to staff and other club members. Settle in with your favourite drink and enjoy a chat as you get to know people.
You’ll also have a chance to look at the lunch menu and choose what takes your fancy. If you’re feeling unsure about the day, tell us what’s on your mind.
Ask about your first day2 · A morning of choice
We might explore what happened on this day in history, listen to favourite Number 1 hits or tackle a crossword together. If you prefer something different, there are arts and crafts, knitting and puzzles to enjoy.
The day is yours to enjoy in your own way. Join in with everything, choose a few favourites or simply relax and enjoy the company. You could also try Scrabble or a spot of gardening.
Tell us about your interests3 · Move at your own pace
Around 11am, there may be a chance to get moving with seated yoga, tennis, movement to music, bowls, pool or a stroll around the grounds.
Activities vary from day to day. You can choose what appeals to you, or enjoy a quieter activity and take things at your own pace.
Ask about activities and support4 · Lunch together
At around midday, we sit down to a freshly prepared, homemade two-course lunch. Conversation-starter cards on the tables help stories, memories and laughter flow.
There’s no need to rush your meal. Afterwards, there is time for tea, coffee and more company. Please talk to us before your visit about any dietary requirements.
Discuss dietary requirements5 · An afternoon to enjoy
The afternoon often starts with a singalong, followed by activities such as bingo, quizzes or baking. Homemade cake with afternoon tea is always a bonus.
Some days bring visiting entertainers or animals. Guests have included therapy dog visits, singers from Mini Concerts, Stroud Mini Farms, ZooLab and Walks with Hawks. If music isn’t your thing, you can choose a puzzle, Scrabble or another activity you enjoy.
Ask what’s coming up6 · A gentle finish
At around 3.30pm, we pause for afternoon tea while quizzes and friendly conversation carry on. There is time to wind down, sometimes with a favourite retro comedy, as family members and loved ones arrive.
When arranging your visit, please speak to the team about your collection arrangements and any questions about the end of the day.
