This week is dementia awareness week!
The Kimbrose club staff and members will be sharing with you the sorts of things we get up to how it
helps people with dementia to live well.
Gardening can bring a range of benefits for someone living with dementia, in fact just being out in the fresh air is good for everyone, boosting energy levels, reducing stress, and giving a feeling of calm, relaxation and promoting a good night’s sleep. Gardienng and being outside has also been shown to improve attention, memory, and supports positive social interaction! It also gives someone living with dementia a sense of purpose. And of course there is the added benefit of exercise too!
We are very lucky to have a lovely outside space here at Kimbrose Club, last year our club members started a gardening
club, it was a great success, so we are doing it again this year!
Our club members said they enjoyed growing produce to eat, and for those who prefer the more floral side of horticulture we have decided to experiment with edible flowers.
Kimbrose staff and club members enjoyed meeting with The Gloucester Charities Trust head gardener Jon, who gave us some fantastic advise – Our club members also shared their top tips for growing vegetables.
So far, our mint, sage and strawberries are all doing well, returning from last year – we have had some wonderful donations of plants from our club members, runner beans from Bob and Hollyhock seeds from John and Jenny which was lovely and will provide nectar and pollen for the many insects who visit our garden. so thank you!
We also have just planted tomato plans from Hardy’s fruit and Veg shop. Nasturtiums and beetroot seeds have also been planted, and we look forwards to planting Lettuce, rocket, and spinach in the next few weeks.
We would appreciate any donation for plants, please bring them along to Kimbrose Club, we are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 until 5PM
