Supporting Hope for Tomorrow: helping patients feel more prepared
Gloucester Charities Trust was delighted to donate £10,000 to Hope for Tomorrow, supporting the charity’s work to bring cancer care closer to patients’ homes. Jane Ellis accepted the donation on the charity’s behalf at No. 76 on 25 August.
That meeting also sparked an opportunity to help in another way: using our skills to produce a virtual tour of one of the charity’s mobile treatment units.
Bringing cancer care closer to home
Hope for Tomorrow builds and maintains mobile cancer care units that bring treatment into local communities. Working in partnership with NHS trusts, the charity provides the units while NHS nursing teams deliver the care on board.
For patients, receiving treatment closer to home can mean shorter journeys, fewer travel costs and less time away from family, friends and everyday life. At an already difficult time, these things can make a real difference.
The charity relies on donations and fundraising to keep its units on the road, and we’re pleased to support this valuable work.
A look inside before the first visit
Attending a cancer treatment appointment can feel daunting, particularly when the surroundings are unfamiliar. Knowing a little more about where you’re going can help take away some of that uncertainty.
Following our conversation with Jane, we helped produce a virtual tour of one of Hope for Tomorrow’s mobile treatment units. The tour gives patients the opportunity to look around before their appointment, explore the space at their own pace and share it with family members or friends who may be supporting them.
The aim is simple: to make an unfamiliar place feel a little more familiar.
While the tour cannot answer every question about an appointment, we hope it will help ease some of the anxiety about visiting somewhere new and give patients a clearer idea of what to expect when they step inside.
