When John was at school during the war he was evacuated to Cornwall, during this time John had dyslexia but this difficulty was not known or understood. He used to draw all day in his books instead of writing and that is where he discovered his love and passion for artistry.
John soon became a professional Artist eventually owning his own studios for more than sixty years. John learned in his late 20’s to read and write after understanding more about dyslexia.
John emigrated to America in the 1980’s where he combined his artistic flair and newly learnt writing skills to become a play writer for dinner theatre for the next 30 years.
After John moved back to England and came to live at St. Bartholomew’s, he started to volunteer with groups of adults who suffer with mental health issues to support them with art therapy to aid their recovery. Although John does not continue to do this, he often will visit the groups and stays in touch with members which he enjoys very much.
John is now kindly supporting the Housing Team with running a crafts group for residents living at St. Bartholomew’s.
